Ribose Plus, provided by Douglas Laboratories®, contains a blend of ribose, creatine, Maca root (Lepidium meyenii), and other nutrients vital to the production and maintenance of energy use for the healthy structure and function of the body, particularly muscular activity.
FUNCTIONS
When our body is called upon to produce energy, it relies on compounds such as adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and creatine phosphate. These molecules are used to provide our cells with the fuel they need to keep running, especially during times of strenuous exercise. While these molecules provide us with energy, one consequence of strenuous exercise is a depletion of creatine phosphate and ATP from our cells. The degree and speed with which we can regenerate these compounds is closely associated with our ability to recover and continue to perform during future exercise. Scientists have known for many years that ribose, a simple sugar, is involved in the metabolic pathway that results in the formation of ATP. However, only recently have we realized that supplementation with ribose can have a significant impact on the regeneration of ATP that is lost during exercise. Studies have shown that this can translate into enhanced performance. Ribose is quickly absorbed by the body and has no known toxicity. Glutamine and glycine have also been added to this formula as both of these amino acids are required for ribose to effectively be converted to ATP.
